Lecture Capture Policies for UMassD
The policy below is based on input from the UMass President’s Office of the General Counsel regarding video recording in a classroom setting.
- No class will be recorded without the expressed consent of the faculty member.
- All parties must be notified before recording begins via announcement in class or general statement on the course site that class sessions are recorded for student reference.
- Videos are kept for 18 months from the creation date of the recording, then moved to lecture capture archives.
- Archived videos will be deleted after 12 months in the archive.
- Lecture recordings are restricted to UMassD students via their UMassD username/password.
- The recordings should be made available only to the students in that class and for the duration of the term.
- The Instructor retains Intellectual Property rights of the recorded material. Additional information regarding Intellectual Property can be found on the UMassD guidelines.
- The instructor can schedule Ad Hoc lecture recordings whenever the resource is available (please provide at least 48 hours notice).
**Note that restricting the distribution of classroom recordings outside of the currently enrolled course and term is enforced not only to protect student privacy but also to protect educational materials that fall under intellectual property and copyright restrictions.
